Storm King Art Center

Storm King Art Center

My wife and I were looking for something interesting to do in the summer weekend. I chanced upon this nice A CUP OF JO which had a number of interesting posts about places to visit and lot of other topics. I found the blog on storm king quite interesting and we decided to go there.

We chose the option to go with Coach USA package which includes a visit to storm king and an added incentive of shopping at Woodbury Commons. Storm King is an art center that has an area of around 500 acres and it is sprinkled with all kinds of sculptures from the 1940s onwards. It is a beautiful sight to see all these big sculptures laid out on green meadows and on hills and it is peaceful up there.

You have the option to roam around the place by walk, by bike or by trams that run every half hour. We chose to walk initially to get an up close view of the sculptures and then chose the tram for far off places. We were pretty much on the move for more than 3 hours and it was worth it.

For art novices like me, a little more information on each sculpture and what it signifies would have made it more meaningful. The sculpture for me does not give me the same intimate feeling when compared to viewing a painting. But, it compensates by being in the middle of nature and providing a serene atmosphere. Overall, a great half day to spend in the summer and something unique to experience.
